Daryl Tay (aka Unique-Frequency) has finally given up on Twitter. Once a #1 Twitter advocate, he has had enough with Twitter’s infrastructure problems and downtime and now has publicly declared it is time to move on.
So what now? Which new microblogging asynchronous messaging service has been bestowed the patronage of the upcoming Singapore social media guru. The recipient of all that love is Plurk. His post defends the reason for his shifting love. Tsk tsk… Love is commitment Daryl - through uptimes and downtimes.
Is Plurk the harbinger of Twitter’s doom? Maybe. However local Social Media sensei Kevin Lim says over Twitter (where else) that Plurk and Twitter have difference dynamics.
Despite all the love Plurk is receiving from the Pingsters, a dominant force in the Singapore Social Media scene, I’ll wait for a while before joining. The service’s tagline - Your life, on the line - worries me. I am not too keen to put my life in any sort of danger and it will probably happen by joining another possibly addictive service.
Don’t forget the added benefits of Cliques and threaded conversations! It’s not really about love (okay it is a bit), but it’s about who gives you the best service. Right now it’s Plurk.
That said, I’m still quite a Twitter lover. Maybe when she gets her act together I’ll think about it again….
nothing else to write about? … i’ve also walked away from twitter. LOL. i think many people did. if u write an article abt each one of us, i think u’ll be having a field day
cheers.
I’m sorry Daphne. You are only a pamper-worthy female blogger, not a blogging + social media guru celebrity like Daryl although I think you are a brilliant community organizer.
I’ll write a post about why you are so worthy of being sayang once I come to those series of posts.
I’m keeping to Twitter. They’ll be back up like usual soon.
I can list out 3 good reasons why I’m not going to Plurk..
1. I can’t Twitpic!
2. I can’t get plurk to send sms to me when my friends plurk.
3. Its not integrated with blogs, netvibes, browsers and what not.
So please stop Twittering about Plurk! *plucks hair off the guy next to me*
i can has social media guru celebrity too?
socialpr can has too?
Thanks for sharing about your love for Twitter. Please go easy on Krisandro. His legion of fans need him to continue blogging.
@brian… we have a very stringent selection process. I’ll get my team to look at your body of work. I’m bias so must exclude myself from the assessment.
Haha. I should get credit for being the first to tell Daryl about Plurk!
On another note, though. Plurk seems decent, but I highly doubt it’s gonna replace Twitter for me.
I reckon it’s a question of when, and not if, Twitter will be replaced by Plurk.
In Technology, it is never about who invents the wheel, but who improves it. Sony didn’t invent the walkman. MSN wasn’t our preferred P2P chat system. Facebook wasn’t the first profile-eccentric social network.
If Twitter doesn’t buck up in time, Plurk will take over soon enough.
Who remembers that fella named ICQ?
