Top blogger DK endorses the Nadnut-Jayden show Blogger’s Sweets. They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery - I guess Sabrina who is behind Blogger's Treat should be flattered.

Top blogger DK endorses the Nadnut-Jayden show Blogger’s Sweets. They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery - I guess Sabrina who is behind Blogger’s Treat should be flattered.

The first episode of the Blogger’s Sweets is here.

Notwithstanding what we think about the name, we do like this show. The always vivacious and enthusiastic Nadnut is a joy to watch. Jayden, her partner in crime, is a great co-host. Both these hosts are perfect foils for each other. Their chemistry needs no further distillation.

We especially heart the opening credits of the show. VERY PROFESSIONALLY DONE.

The guest blogger is super-duperchio.

We have been keeping track of the different video podcasts on food (i.e. Blogger’s Sweets, Small Girl Big Appetite, Lunch With Yebber)and have a few thoughts.

Why is it that only Small Girl Big Appetite by Podfire allows us to embed the videos?

We think this is worth considering. We are guessing that the team behind Lunch With Yebber and Blogger’s Sweets want us to go to their sites to watch the videos. In fact, for Lunch With Yebber, it seems that they are trying to get viewers to sign up before they can see past episodes. We know of a way to get pass that.

This is interesting from a business perspective because of the simple question - how to make money? Do you want to make money with the video podcast or make money around the video podcast? Forcing people to only be able to view videos on your site might help sell the ad space around the videos but it seems to us a mighty waste to reduce your video podcast as just another way to generate traffic and then sell the eyeballs.

Might developing a strategy to make money off the video podcasts itself work? If so, then part of that strategy would be to make sure your videos are easily distributable. Don’t just host your videos on Viddler. Put it everywhere!!! Like YouTube.

Yebber is an interesting case. We can see how the site is trying to use the video podcasts to promote their site’s community and reviews as well as get new members. However, we can’t help but think if the company is overextending by going into the content production business.

Originally, the company started out as a place to build a community passionate about sharing their opinions and aggregated those opinions. It was an aggregator and distributor of user-generated content.

Why move to the content production business? Why not also become a hub for video reviews while backing the top bloggers who are interesting in starting their own series of video podcasts?

One of the reasons cited for news companies allegedly dying in the States is that they are bloated. One of the solutions proposed was that the news companies separate their distribution and writing units. It seems interesting that one of our local success stories in this Web 2.0 phase seems to want to be more bloated.

Experienced entrepreneur Paddy Tan also dispenses sagely business advice to the different teams behind the Sweets.sg, Lunch With Yebber and Small Girl Big Appetite. Do read his valuable post.

Cobalt Paladin has left a comment over at AP’s post on Ping.sg’s supposedly double standards. We feel that his comment is the best one made by any Ping.sg member so far regarding this. We don’t usually dig older man but today we make an exception - we heart Cobalt.

Hi all,

I guess everyone should calm down and understand that ping.sg is funded by uzyn out of his own pocket. He is the owner of ping.sg. He has every right to do what he deems fit. Of course, Andrew Peters has every right to voice his displeasure. However, please understand that for ping.sg to grow, like any other popular web 2.0 entity, there needs to be a constant source of revenue to fund its continuation. For ping.sg, it is obvious that its revenue stream is from advertising. If all commercial entities (e-commerce websites, online shops, corporate sites) just set up a blog and are allowed to ping in ping.sg and build awareness for free, which business entity will then choose advertising in ping.sg?

I’ve noticed that more and more commercial blogs have been appearing in ping.sg albeit some more subtle than others, but ultimately, all commercial blogs aims is to trying to build awareness through the ping.sg community for themselves.

I understand that advertlets, nuffnang, yourheartyourlife and blog2u etc may have appeared in ping.sg before but now they no longer appear. Uzyn is not precinct, he won’t be able to ban commercial blogs before they appear and we all know uzyn is the only person (correct me if I’m wrong) behind ping.sg and he is currently busy with many projects especially widgeo.us. So blogs can only be banned after he noticed them.

For the continued operation of ping.sg, uzyn has to draw a simple and clear line: all commercial blogs not approved by him will be banned.

If anyone wants their commercial blogs to be allowed, maybe can work out some advertising deal with ping.sg? If not, we should just respect uzyn’s decision.

Suggestion coming up… Let’s start a forum page listing all the commercial blogs, explicit or subtle, that exist on Ping.sg. Let the community help although a group of people suffering from group-think may not necessarily be any wiser than an individual. It is however worth a shot so that workload can be taken off Uzyn and the community over at Ping.sg can be more sanitized.

In a blog post that will cause fans of blogger DK to scramble to the nearest bubble tea stall, DK has publicly endorse Passion Green Tea with pearls as his drink of choice.

The question that we over here at The New Socialite are really interested in is whether the bikini girls selling bubble tea will make a comeback. Yummy.

Fans of Kevin Lim from theory.isthereason.com take note - he is lamenting the lack of bubble tea options in his current location. Do send sachets of the tea powder with packets of tapioca balls to the crush worthy Kevin Lim if you can.

A word of caution - there is an urban legend that the tapioca balls do not get digested or passed out but stay around in your stomach eventually coating the stomach walls as a toxic substance.

Daryl Tay (aka Unique-Frequency) has finally given up on Twitter. Once a #1 Twitter advocate, he has had enough with Twitter’s infrastructure problems and downtime and now has publicly declared it is time to move on.

So what now? Which new microblogging asynchronous messaging service has been bestowed the patronage of the upcoming Singapore social media guru. The recipient of all that love is Plurk. His post defends the reason for his shifting love. Tsk tsk… Love is commitment Daryl - through uptimes and downtimes.

Is Plurk the harbinger of Twitter’s doom? Maybe. However local Social Media sensei Kevin Lim says over Twitter (where else) that Plurk and Twitter have difference dynamics.

Despite all the love Plurk is receiving from the Pingsters, a dominant force in the Singapore Social Media scene, I’ll wait for a while before joining. The service’s tagline - Your life, on the line - worries me. I am not too keen to put my life in any sort of danger and it will probably happen by joining another possibly addictive service.

What Two Stomp Star Bloggers Said About Sharon Stone

The question posed to Stomp Star Bloggers this week is - Is Hollywood star Sharon Stone too insensitive or are the increasingly nationalistic Chinese people too sensitive? I'll comment on two of their answers.

The question posed to Stomp Star Bloggers this week is:

Is Hollywood star Sharon Stone too insensitive or are the increasingly nationalistic Chinese people too sensitive?

Let’s look at what two of them said:

I like what Nadnut wrote. It is always good to have some introspection and for that we heart you:

Before we get started, I have a confession to make. I do have a habit at saying ‘Gee, it must be karma’ or ‘Serves them right. Bad things happen to bad people.’ when bad things happen to some people. To be exact, some people who have been mean, unkind or nasty to me or my friends before. And I have never thought much about those remarks I’ve made before till I read about Sharon Stone’s comments. Now to think about it, despite anything anyone has done, be it mean, unjust, unkind or just plain cruel, no one deserves such comments or remarks and especially not a country who has just suffered a big blow. I’ll have to remember not to say such things in future.

Now to the really interesting post by one of the guys.

In his post, Ju-Len said this:

But then celebrities have been saying stupid things for ages.

Society lends added weight to the comments of the dumb and ignorant, simply because they are famous, and should anyone really care about what celebrities have to say?

Would you ask Fiona Xie what she thought of the whole Mas Selamat affair, and more importantly, would you give a toss about her answer either way? I know I wouldn’t.

Are Star Bloggers the same as Hollywood celebrities? If what Ju-Len says is true, why then should we even bother with the Star Bloggers.

Are new/social media bloggers/celebrities the same? Should we give any sort of extra weight to bloggers just because they are Starred? Should we give any sort of extra weight to bloggers who are ranked high on whatever arbitrary list? Should we give any sort of extra weight to bloggers just because they were picked.

The answer of course is it depends.

We should care about what celebrities have to say if it is worth listening to. Celebrities can be great platforms to disseminate good ideas.

The problem of course is that as social media matures, we are going to have more blogging celebrities and the danger of what Ju-Len says is very real - we might give too much weight to their words just because they are popular or famous.
